About Juan Ruiz

Juan Ruiz (c. 1283 - c. 1350), a principal figure in medieval Spanish literature, is a poet about whom little is known but much has been said. His Libro de buen amor  is regarded as one of the finest collections of verse in any language. It contains a broad spectrum of styles and subjects, including fables (                 ) , love stories, religious poetry, anticlerical satire, a mock epic battle, and pastoral verse (serranas), to name a few.
